Video Streaming Service RayV Acquired by Yahoo
Yahoo announced the acquisition of Israeli company RayV–a move that will bolster its video delivery system and allow the tech giant to compete with Netflix and Youtube. Recently, Yahoo has sought to improve its video content by picking up the 6th season of NBC’s cancelled Community and the first episode of HBO’s new series The Leftovers. RayV’s software platform will enhance the way Yahoo’s users interact with that content by allowing users to stream high definition video both over the web and from mobile devices. By enabling Yahoo to expand further into mobile video and broaden its existing video platform, RayV’s streaming service will likely allow Yahoo to attract new advertisers, a top priority for CEO Marissa Mayer. As a result of the acquisition, RayV will move most of its team from its New York City office to Yahoo’s Tel Aviv research and development center.
