Tel Aviv Wins The Smart City Award

Smart Cities

Every year, Barcelona hosts the Smart City Expo World Congress, and just today, Israel won the congress' revered Smart Cities Award.

Tel Aviv managed to beat out 250 global cities who were in the running. The expo itself is considered to be the world’s primary summit on innovation. At the Tel Aviv booth, the organizers displayed the city’s “smart technologies” with companies such as Motorola Solutions Israel and Microsoft.

Since 2012, Tel Aviv has undergone a “digital revolution”, by way of the Digi-Tel Platform. The city’s residents have had access to free Wifi across the city in addition to a number of other improvements. Tel Aviv has also incorporated a significant amount of urban administration changes and civic participation engagements into the daily life of its residents. Tel Aviv offers its dwellers a digital resident card, where they not only have access to wifi, but they also get updated with local happenings, rental discounts, and other forms of helpful insight.

With a digital revolution like that of Tel Aviv’s, it is no wonder, that the city is now the world’s “Smartest City.”
