With Shared Concerns over Water, Israel and California to Share Water Technology
California is only now beginning to experience what Israel has been dealing with since the 1980's. And due to Israel's success in dealing with severe water shortages, along with California's biggest water desalination plant, designed by Israeli water treatment firm IDE Technologies, set to open in late 2015, cooperation between Israel and California is expected to grow stronger. One such event which hopes to bring the two drought-striken regions together, highlighting key areas of shared interest such as agriculture, is Watec – taking place in Tel Aviv from October 13-15. Lessons from Israel include broad-based education from an early age on water management, more strigent government controls over water use, and the use of new technologies to take advantage of major resources, like the Pacific Ocean.
